Lonely But Not Alone

“The most terrible poverty is loneliness, and the feeling of being unloved.”

Sometimes the feeling of loneliness creeps in on you in your most fragile moments. When hope is nowhere to be found and emptiness is all that’s found. When everything goes wrong and you can’t even draw a smile on your face. At moments like these you’re not even aware of what’s inside of you or what has gotten into you. The emptiness within is made of despair and pain hidden beneath all the smiles.
Despite all the pain, loneliness does not last forever. There are thousands of people who understand you. Who feel lonely just like you do. Who are craving affection and love. But the only thing that you truly need is comfort.  Not the comfort of others, but yourself. The pain is only eased when you come to the realization that comforting yourself is the sole answer. The support of others is incredibly helpful but nothing can change unless you make the decision of helping yourself first. It’s a long journey to be able to fully recover and heal on your own but within time it will become a part of you; when you won’t need anyone but yourself.
The feeling of healing is beautiful and being able to help someone go through what you’ve been through is even more beautiful. Start to look at the positive side from the loneliness that has gotten into you and help someone else get through their hard times. Share your story and show the world that loneliness is not forever.
“When I get lonely these days, I think: So BE lonely, Liz. Learn your way around loneliness. Make a map of it. Sit with it, for once in your life. Welcome to the human experience. But never again use another person's body or emotions as a scratching post for your own unfulfilled yearnings.” Elizabeth Gilbert
